NATIONAL CADET LEAGUE 12 DECEMBER 2010

The second round of National Cadet League matches was held at Stowupland on Sunday 12 December 2010..

The format of both divisions in the first round of matches in October was matches of nine games so that the players of each team played one another in their Division matches. This format was continued in the first round of the day’s matches but would be changed to the 6 format after this first round with the probability promotion and relegation between the two Divisions. All matches were played on two tables.

In their first match the Chelmsford team played Wymondham A who led the Division after the October round of matches. In the opening two matches Chris Denyer and Oliver Hicks both lost 12-10 in the fourth game to Tom Fox and Mark Waity respectively. Sarah Austin then found herself 2-0 down to Daniel Howes but came back to a close -7, -4, 9, 13, 7 win whilst on the other table Oliver was losing 9, 9, 8 to Tom. For the next two matches Chris was taken the full distance by Daniel finally winning 11-8 in the fifth but Sarah lost 3-1 to Mark. With Oliver losing 12-10 in the fifth to Daniel after being 2-0 up and Sarah, from 2-1 up losing 11-4 in the fifth to Tom the team were 6-2 down.  The final score was 6-3 when Sarah  won a nail biter of a match with Mark 6, -7, 9, -11, 9.

Rowhedge were relegated after this round of matches and Wymondham B promoted. Thus honours would be decided over the next ten rounds of matches where each team would play the other teams in the Division twice.

Their second match was against Rougham who had finished just below Chelmsford after the conclusion of the 9 match format matches. Sarah lost her opening match to Max Boulter heavily 3-0 but Chris had a very close match with Bradley Troughton, finally winning by the closest of margins 9, -10, -10, 4, 11. The next two matches were also shared, Oliver winning 3-0 over Andy Marshall and Chris losing 3-1 to Max after winning the opening game. Sarah quickly beat Andy 3-0 and Oliver after leading 2-0 agaainst Bradley was pulled back to 2 all but won the last game to 7 for a 4-2 team win.

In their last match they were somewhat fortunate to play a Bury St. Edmunds team whose third player had had to leave early for another sports commitment. Sarah lost 3-0 to Callum Wilkinson but after being 2-1 up Chris lost to Seb Arton 11-5 in the fifth. In the final two matches Chris and Oliver both won their opening games 12-10 against Callum and Seb respectively and Chris went on to get an excellent five game win over Callum after being 2-1 down whilst Oliver lost games 4 and 5 both 12-10, so a match draw.

The combined Chelmsford/NETTS team found that they had to play the NETTS B Team who only had two players. Martin Hiskey and Wiktor Delimat both lost their opening matches to Chris Hillman and Sam Johnson respectively 11-8 in the fifth after both were 2-1 up. Wiktor then lost to Chris 3-1 and Jack Goodman did the same with Sam. Jack then lost 3-0 to Chris but Martin won the last match against Sam 6, 12, -7, 9 for a 5-4 defeat.

In the 6 match format their first match was against Stowmarket. The opening two matches were shared, Martin beating Matthew Ager 3-0 with Wiktor losing 3-0 to Jack Samson. The next two were also shared, Jack losing 3-0 to Jordan Redhead and Martin beating Jack -9, 7, 10, -9, 6. Jack won his first match of the day with a 3-1 win over Matthew and Wiktor beating Jordan with the odd looking scoreline 11-0, 11-7, 15-13!

Their last match was against Framlingham Tigers. Martin and Wiktor had easy opening 3-0 wins over Natalie Wills and Rhianna Evans and Jack achieved his second win of the day with a five set win over Oliver Lamb. Martin had to come back from 2-1 down to beat Rhianna, Jack lost 3-0 to Natalie and with Wiktor defeating Oliver 3-0 a 5-1 win was achieved.

The next round of matches will be on Sunday 20 February and not 23 January as stated on the Entry Form and the ETTA Calerndar.
