Weather wipes out almost all of the week’s games
With just a handful of Scorecards received this week in the Chelmsford &
District Table Tennis League due to the bad weather perhaps the most
significant result concerns a game that wasn’t played because the away
side were unable to field a team on the Sunday aftternoon. Third placed
ECC A are the latest victims for failing to field a team on the
controversial Sunday afternoon fixture against Elmtree Excalibur A in
division one, and their challenge for honours is effectively finished.
ECC D, the favourites in division three, made no mistake against
OCs B, and they ran out comfortable 9-1 winners. James Hicks and Bryn
Thomas were both undefeated. Fourth-placed Elmtree Excalibur B also won
9-1 with Bill Smith and Nigel Lamb both picking up three wins against
ECC C. Neil Thompson was ECC’s winner and he secured a fine five set win
over Richard Hiskey in the last game of the night. Bill Smith had to
pull out all the stops to get the better of Peter Layzell 11-5, 10-12,
11-3, 4-11, 16-14 whilst Nigel Lamb was equally stretched by Richard
Storey before he eased home 11-8, 11-13, 9-11, 11-7, 12- 10.
Rawreth D had Paul Churn to thank as they beat ECC E 6-4. Paul Churn won
his three singles and Mike Worship picked up two wins. Worship just
overcame Colin Barham 16-18, 11-4, 4-11, 11-6, 13-11 after a fluctuating
battle in what was also the closest deciding game of the night. OCs C
ran out convincing 9-1 winners against Chelmsford D. David Porter (three
wins), Sue Hickman (three wins) and Roy Moore (two wins) all played
their part in an excellent team performance. John Barrett was on target
for Chelmsford, getting the better of Roy Moore over five ends.
For those players intending to enter the M&G Investments Chelmsford &
District Table Tennis League Closed Tournamenet over the weekend of
04-06 February 2011 please note that the Closing date has been extended
to Tuesday 14 December 2010.
