Very impressive display by Nigel Lamb

Hullbridge Fat Boy’s Nigel Lamb turned in his best display of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League Season as he led his side to a 3-2 win over Ramsden Raiders. In a marathon match where all five games were decided in the fifth end Lamb excelled beating both John Gagg (9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8) and John Parodi (10-12, 5-11, 11-6, 11-8, 9-11). Hullbridge OAPs are currently in second place and they did well to beat Liberals 4-1. Peter Saunders won twice whilst George Pavitt picked up one win. The OAPs also beat Writtle 3-2 with Peter Saunders again remaining undefeated. Saunders played well in both of his games, beating Hector Rogers 11-6, 11-8, 11-5 and Matthew Brown 7-11, 11-9, 16-14, 11-4.

Cold Norton A edged out Danbury B 3-2 in division two. In a match where all four players won one singles it all came down to the doubles encounter and Dave Marsh and Terry Hyland made no mistake, beating Lee McHugh and Graham Briggs 11- 7, 13-11, 11-9. Leaders Ramsden Renegades turned in a storming performance to beat Danbury A 5-0. Chris and Steve Buer gave nothing away and Chris Buers' 12- 10, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9 victory over Herbie Smith looks to have been the pick of the action. West Maldon who made a promising start to the Season met their match against Elmtree Graphics a and they were well beaten 5-0. Mark Smith and Fred Button both stayed undefeated . Tim Huxtable gave a good account of himself against Colchester first division player Mark Smith before succumbing 11-9, 7-11, 8-11, 14-12, 5-11.

Hylands turned out their strongest side of the Season in division three and it was no surprise that they beat Writtle B 5-0. Junior County players Brandon Crouchman and Scott Dowsett were both undefeated. Crouchman found Dave Moles a tricky proposition and he needed the full five games before he eased home 10- 12, 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6. Hylands added four points to their tally as they beat leaders Excalibur/Elmtree Graphics C 4-1. Peter Mynard made his mark for the losers with a fine 11-5, 8-11, 11-9, 11-7 win over Scott Dowsett.
Elmtree/Excalibur B stay in contention for honours and they over-powered Chelmsford A, winning 5-0. Both Rod Maclennan and Richard Hiskey remained undefeated. Maclennan had to pull out all the stops to get the better of a battling Gordon Fairchild 7-11, 11-9, 17-15, 11-8.

In division four Danbury C who have been behind with their fixtures have moved into contention for honours with three victories. They were represented by John Knights and Brian Ellis as they beat Chelmsford C 4-1. Ellis remained undefeated whilst the ever-improving Robert Shrimpton was responsible for Chelmsford’s win. He beat John Knights 11-7, 11-3, 10-12, 11-8. Danbury C made no mistake against Chelmsford B, winning 5-0 and represented by the same two players – Dave Powell and Brian Ellis they also beat Old Chel msfordians B 3-2.
Powell and Ellis shared singles wins with Dave Newman and Charles Eaton, with all fours players picking up one victory.
