Buer scores excellent wins over Phil and Mark Smith


Chris Buer starred in Ramsden Renegade’s 3-2 win over Elmtree/Excalibur A in division two of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League. Buer scored excellent 3-1 singles wins over both Phil and Mark Smith and for good measure he shared in a doubles success as well. Elmtree/Excalibur returned to winning ways against Cold Norton with Fred Button and Mark Smith carrying all before them as they won 5-0. The doubles provided the closest contest of the night with Smith/Button getting the better of Terry Hyland/Dave Marsh by a last gasp 14-12, 11-9, 12-14, 7-11, 11-9 scoreline. West Maldon impressed by beating Danbury A 4-1, with Chris Ciniglio scoring two excellent wins over Herbie Smith and Ivan Chaplin. Ivan Chaplin came off best in the battle of the defenders and he got the better of Glen Laing over four closely fought games : 9-11, 11-8, 13- 11, 13-11.

First division leaders Rayne made no mistake against Writtle and Hullbridge OAPs winning both games 5-0. Ian Whiteside’s battle against George Pavitt proved to be the hardest fought of the two games with Ian finally coming out on top 8-11, 11-7, 10-12, 16-14, 11-8.Writtle have been the campaign’s surprise package and this week they did well to beat Hullbridge Fat Boys 3-2. Neither Matthew Brown or Hector Rogers were able to get the better of Gary Baker but they but they both did well to beat Nigel Lamb and they combined superbly to sore an emphatic doubles win over the Lamb/Baker pairing 11-3, 11-5, 11-7.
Ramsden Raider’s match against Hullbridge OAPs was something of a rarity. All four players won one singles and the Senior Citizens finally secured victory in a fiercely fought deciding doubles. Peter Saunders/George Pavitt just got the better of Dave Carter/John Parodi 11-3, 3-11, 11-9, 11-13, 16-14.

In division three an impressive Peter Mynard picked up all six singles as Elmtree Excalibur C scored three victories. He starred in their 5-0 victory over OCs A, he beat both Ev Lucas and Rod Maclennan as they defeated Elmtree/Excalibur B 3-2 and he was again undefeated as they beat Writtle B 3-2.
The high-light was undoubtedly the five game win over the redoubtable Ev Lucas with Mynard running out a 11-7, 7-11, 11-7, 3-11, 11-7 winner.
Elmtree/Excalibur B fared better against Hylands School winning 4-1,and Richard Hiskey made his mark. He secured a fine five game win over Scott Dowsett 7-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-6, 11-4.

In division four Chelmsford C had the fast-improving Robert Shrimpton to thank as they beat OCs B 3-2. He beat both Charles Eaton (12-10, 12-10, 13-11) and David Newman (11-7.11-6, 10-12, 9-11, 11-5). Mountnessing had it pretty much their own way as they beat Chelmsford B 5-0. John Newman and Paul Singleton were both undefeated whilst OCs B were similarly dominant against Chignall.
Charles Eaton and David Newman both remained unbeaten. Newman beat John Roberts 11-7, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9 in the closest game of the night.
