TWO EXCELLENT WINS FOR PETER SAUNDERS

Hullbridge Fat Boys have made a modest start to their campaign in the first division of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League. A surprisingly heavy 4-1 defeat against Hullbridge OAPs was followed by a 3-2 setback against Liberal. The 4-1 loss to Hullbridge OAPs will have raised a few eyebrows with Super Veteran defender Peter Saunders scoring excellent wins over both Gary Baker (11-6, 7-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-9) and Nigel Lamb (7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-5). George Pavitt missed out against Baker over four ends but he did well to beat Nigel Lamb 3-1. Barry Pritchard was Liberal’s match-winner as he beat Baker (11-6, 8-11, 11-9, 7-11, 12-10) and Lamb (11-6, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8).

Ramsden Renegades beat Cold Norton 4-1 in division two. Chris Buer won both of his singles whilst Dad Steve beat Terry Hyland 3-1. The Doubles was a closely fought affair and Chris and Steve Buer just prevailed in the fifth end : 7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7.

In division three Writtle B edged out Old Chelmsfordians A 3-2. Frank Neill’s two wins gave them the edge as he beat both David and Matthew Porter.

Elmtree/Excalibur B beat OCs B 3-2 in division four although neither Steve Cheesman or John Marshall were able to get the better of Adrian North. Chelmsford C lost the first game against Chignal when Terry Fieldson beat Jacqui Smith in five ends but this seemed to galvanise Chelmsford C and they ran out excellent 4-1 winners. Chris Denyer won both of his singles. Charles Eaton was Old Chelmsfordians B’s match-winner as they beat Mountnessing 3-2. He had to work hard to beat both Paul Singleton (11-5, 13-11, 15-17, 8-11, 11-9 - in what was the closest match of the Summer League Season to date) and Suzanne Shaw (12-10, 11-5, 11-9).
