INFORMATION NOTES

NORMAN SMITH EXCELS IN LAST ROUND OF MATCHES

The all conquering Rayne team of Ian Whiteside, Andrew McEwan, Steve Elmes, Steve Pennell and Steve Kerns scored an impressive 27 points out of a possible 30 to become runaway winners of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League first division. Hullbridge Fat Boys with 20 points were a clear second and they finished their campaign in style by bearing OCs A 4-1. Richard Brown won both of his games whilst the hard-hitting Steve Northcott was on target for OCs as he scored a fine five game win over Nigel Lamb. OCs A conpleted their Season by beating Danbury B 3-2, their second win of the Season. Danbury’s Herbie Smith made his mark by beating Steve Northcott 9-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-6 but Robbie Burton’s two singles victories ensured that OCs shaded the match. Bottom side Danbury B also came close to beating SELAX in a match where Norman Smith excelled by getting the better of Gary Ward after five very hard fought games : 10-12, 12-10, 10-12, 11-9, 11-8. SELAX shaded the match 3-2.

Excalibur Musketeers with 22 points out of 30 and a 100 % record of six wins finished as comfortable Division two winners. OCs B with 18 points just missed out on second place to ECC A despite beating ECC B 3-2 in their last game. The two teams finished with identical records (18 points, four victories and two defeats) but it was ECC A who finished in second place by virtue of having beaten OCs B 3-2 in their second week clash. The much-improved Nat Ravlic had another great night against ECC B beating both John Wickens and Peter Layzell.
