INFORMATION NOTES

NATIONAL CADET LEAGUE 05 JANUARY  2008

The second round of National Cadet League matches was held at Stowupland on Saturday 5 January 2008. After the first round of matches where there were three Groups to establish the strengths of the teams the main league was now to consist of two Divisions, Division 1 having eight teams and Division 2 six teams. Each team would play the other teams in their Division twice over this and the next two rounds of matches with Division 1 matches comprising six games and Division 2 nine games. Chelmsford A were in Division 1 and after some thought the B team were put in Division 2

Chelmsford A , comprising Brandon Crouchman, Scott Dowsett and James Austin stamped their authority on the Division with five straight wins and lead the Division by nine points on the point a game system. The opening match was against Wymondham who finished the day in second place but the A team took this match 6-0, although both James, 5, -8, 7, -9, 6 and Scott, 9, 12, 9 found the opposition number three Danny Dalmay difficult to beat. Against Stowmarket A the A Team lost their only games of the day, both Brandon and Scott losing to Martin West, the highest ranked player in the room. TT-on-Sea were easily beaten 6-0 and the same fate befitted Bury St. Edmunds where only James was taken to five by Joe Easdown. Finally every game won easily three straight against Stowmarket B.

Chelmsford B were equally impressive in Division two where Matthew Davis and Sarah Austin were unbeaten with Robert Shrimpton the player to lose three of his games. The opening match against NETTS Girls saw every game won easily three straight for a 9-0 win and in the following match against TT-on-Sea Robert lost two of his games, the one against Bede Kelly at 9 in the fifth after being 5-2 up at halfway. Their final match was against a Thurstable A team containing Jamie Dowsett. Matthew scraped through his opening match against Paul Simms 6, 7, -3, -9, 7 and Robert did the same against Jamie winning 4, -13, 9, 9. After that matches were won three straight until Sarah took four to beat Jamie 6, 9, -10, 10 and Robert lost the last game for an 8-1 win.
