NATIONAL CADET LEAGUE 13 OCTOBER 2007
The first round of National Cadet League matches was held at Stowupland
on Saturday 13 October 2007, clashing with the Junior British League at
Loughborough University.
By the previous Monday ten teams had entered as against last years six
teams. By Tuesday morning there were 12 teams and by Tuesday afternoon
14. As a number of the entered teams were of unknown standard the
Organiser formed two Divisions of four teams, each match to be of 9 sets
and one Division of six teams, each match to be of six sets.
The Chelmsford A team in Division 1 was Brandon Crouchman, Scott Dowsett
and James Austin. Wins of 9-0 over Kings Lynn, and Thurstable A and 8-1
over NETTS Boys saw the team top of the table, the only loss being
Jame’s defeat by Luke Tarrant and Luke’s only defeats being at the hands
of Brandon and Scott.
The Chelmsford B team in Division 2 lost their first match to Stowmarket
A 7-2 but beat both TT-on-Sea and Bury St. Edmunds 5-4 to finish in
third place, one point behind TT-on-Sea. Matthew Davis won 7 out of 8,
and Robert Shrimpton and sarah Austin 1 each out of 8, Bury St. Edmunds
being a player short.
On the previous day Greg Yarnell found himself a player short for one of
his teams and managed to get Jamie Dowsett to play. When Jamie arrived
at the venue to find himselt playing for Thurstable A he also found
himself the number one of the team. He went on to win 2 out of 8.
The next round of matches will be on January 5 2008, not January 26 as
originally scheduled. The format for the final three rounds will be
changed to two Divisions, one of eight and one of six. Chelmsford’s two
teams will be in the Division 1 group of eight.
