INFORMATION NOTES The second round of National Cadet League matches was held at Stowupland near Stowmarket on Saturday 18 November. In their first match against bottom team Stowmarket 'B' the 'A' team had an easy 6-0 win, winning all games three straight. Their second match against leaders NETTS finished all square, each Chelmsford player winning once Adam Pitt winning the opening game against Chris Bragg 11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 13-11' 11- 7 and Matthew Davis restoring the Chelmsford lead with a four game win over Luke Tarrant after Claire Austin had lost to Phillip Lawson. With Adam losing to Phillip and Matthew losing 11-7 in the fifth to Chris after being 2 games to 1 up it was left to Claire to win the last game against Luke 11-9, 11-7, 8-11, 11-5 to secure the draw. In the next match Stowmarket 'A' were without their number one player and all games were won three straight, Matthew losing the only game to Martin West, son of Tony West who played in the Chelmsford League some 20 years ago. Claire had a 11-8, 11-7, 12-10 win over the much higher ranked cadet Becky Maclntyre. In the fourth match the 'A' team met the 'B' team. In the opening game Claire had a titanic battle with Kane Lambert, finally winning 11-3, 10-12, 11-9, 9-11, 16-14. Adam beat Scott Dowsett three straight but Matthew lost to Brandon Crouchman 10-12, 8-11, 6-11 giving the 'A' team a narrow 2-1 lead at the halfway stage. Adam extended the lead beating Kane 11-7, 11-5, 11-4. In the next game Brandon had to concede to Claire when falling heavily and injuring his foot in the second game having taken the first 11-8. In the final game Scott defeated Matthew 4-11, 12-10, 6-11, 11-5, 11-8 to make the final score 4-2 to the 'A' Team in a match they might have drawn or even lost. Their last match of the day was against Bury St Edmunds who fielded the same team as that played in the drawn match in the first round. Adam duly won his two games comfortably as did Matthew. Claire however lost in four to Bury's number one Tom Wright but won the last game of the day against George Kizis 11-8, 12-10, 10-12, 11-6 for a 5-1 win. These results lifted the 'A' team from fifth to second in the table. Overall Adam 9 wins out of 10, Claire 8 and Matthew 6 The 'B' Team started the day against Bury St Edmunds, the team they lost 2-4 to in their last match of the first round. With James Austin recovering from his hospital operation a draw was achieved where Kane Lambert, Scott Dowsett and Brandon Crouchman each won once, Kane taking the opening match against Bill Kilner 11-7 in the fifth and Scott securing the draw against Steven Ensinger 15-13, 9-11, 11-4, 4-11, 11-6 in the last. In the next match against Stowmarket 'A' they went one better than last time winning 5-1, only Scott losing to the ranked Becky Macintyre in four. Their next match against Stowmarket 'B' was won 6-0, all games being won easily three straight. The next match against the 'A' Team has been reported above. The 'B' Team's last match was against the leaders NETTS and they had to play without the injured Brandon. In the 1-5 defeat Scott beat Luke Tarrant 11-8, 11-5, 11-6 and also took a game off Phillip Lawson who had remained unbeaten all day. These results dropped the 'B' Team from third to fourth in the table. Overall Kane 5 wins out of 10, Scott 6 out of 10 and Brandon 6 out of 8.
