ELMTREE KEEP UP THE PRESSURE In the first division Elmtree maintained their title challenge by destroying Danbury A 10-0,with Paul Lucas ,john Holland and Paul Lucas all remaining unbeaten. Reigning champions ECC had a 7-3 win over Danbury B, although both teams could only field 2 players. In this match Paul Davison and David Cole carried all before them against Eric Green and Babul McLeod. ECC had a battle royal against a full strength Bocking team, coming out victors 6-4. No player remained undefeated in this match, Peter Hayden had to retire hurt after losing 11-8 in the fifth to Paul Davison, but Kevin Gowlett had a great win over Neil Charles. Excalibur had a fine 7-3 win over a much weaker Bocking team, where Gary Young scored a fine hatrick, which included a 16-14 win in the decider against the very experienced Steve Pennell. Dean Andrews paying up from division 2 had a fine win over Nigel Lamb. Baddow Village continued their fine run of results by beating Maldon 9-1, where Maldon's only win was a straight sets win by Paul Stevens over Wassem Quereshi. Billericay routed Rawreth 10-0, where Alex Green, Gary Tendler and Nalalie Bawden carried all before them. OC's A continued their fine recent form by beating Hatfield Peverel B 8-2, where Robbie Burton scored a fine maximum. Martyn and Greg Green won a game each by defeating Nikki Kennard and Steve Northcott respectively. OC's also beat ECC B 7-3 where Nikki Kennard scored a maximum, Keith Spicer won two for the council with Ken James for once being unable to score. E2V lost narrowly to 6-4 to Hatfield Peverel A 6-4, where the hard hitting Dave Richardson scored a full house for the visitors. Finally Maldon B scored a fine 9-1 win over Baddow Village B, where Dave Bassett scored a hatrick of wins. Maldon were boosted by the first appearance of top veteran player Ray Murray who did taste defeat against Alastair Piper. However if Maldon can turn out this side every week they will be pushing hard for promotion. Excalibur B stay top of the third division after beating Writtle B 7-3, where Richard Hiskey was undefeated. Bill Smith had a battle royal in this match, winning 12-10 in the decider against young Hector Rogers. Baddow D fought out a tense draw with OC's B, where Adrian North was in top form winning all three. Steve Back had a good 13-11 win in the fifth against the experienced John Watts. New signing Paul Churn started off his season in fine style by winning all three against Danbury C for Rawreth in their 6-4 win. Finally Danbury C bounced back by beating league leaders Excalibur B 6-4. Peter Hance lost 16-14 in the decider against Richard Hiskey, with Peter Hance fighting back by beating Linda Murray in the final set. In division 4 a very strong Elmtree side beat Danbury G 8-2. Ev Lucas easily won his three, and was well supported by Nicola Pippen and Tony Vassallo who won 2 each. Elmtree also defeated Danbury H by the narrower margin of 6-4, Tony Vassallo scored a maximum, with Ian Morrison doing best for the visitors by beating Melanie Bonnett and Rod Maclennan. ECC F and Danbury C fought out a 5-5 draw, where Richard Storey was again in fine form by winning all his games. In division 5 Danbury beat OC's D 10-0, Bob Partridge, Norman Hayes and Roger Tiffin did not drop a set. ECC G had differing luck in their two recent matches. They beat a 2 man Baddow g team 8-2, although Richard Napper won two for the visitors. ECC then suffered a 7-3 defeat against Excalibur D, Cecil Butcher scored a fine hatrick for Excalibur. Writtle C beat Hatfield Peverel D 7-3, Tony Lambert remained undefeated in this match. Finally EPHQ and Baddow F played out a 5-5 draw, the talented Ian Hockley had a good evening winning all his matches. Hatfield Peverel E are still going well in division 6, they recently beat Excalibur 9-1 and drew with Baddow H. Keith Cullen won all 6 of his games in these matches, ably supported by Peter Mynard with his maximum against Excalibur. Baddow H routed their J team 10-0, with Sam Pitt, Haydn Upson and Richard Upson carrying all before them. The "Austin Family" beat OC's E 9-1, only losing the doubles in the process. Finally Excalibur E beat Danbury K 9-1, where James Higgs and Stuart Hiskey won all 3.
