Victory For Excalibur There were 3 convincing wins in the first division this week. Baddow A crushed Danbury A 9-1, with only Jon Hill managing to get on the score sheet by beating Neil Gooday 12-10 in the decider, Peter Barrett and Aaron Fennell scored maximums. Excalibur had a morale boosting 7-3 win over Billericay, Nigel Lamb and Kevin Smart (playing up from div 3) both winning all 3. Finally Elmtree beat Rawreth 7-3, Arthur Rybakas was undefeated for the winners supported by John Holland and Paul Lucas, Kevin Read was Rawreth's best player beating John and Paul. Arthur Rybakas had a titanic match with the evergreen Stuart Gibbs, winning 16-14 in the fifth. In what is a traditionally closely contested division it is amazing the number of convincing wins that have come in the second division. Writtle continue to set the pace, this week they thrashed E2V 9-1, not surprisingly Dave Richardson was there sole winner beating Trevor Carter in 4, both Gary Ward and Kevin Worthington were in fine form for the visitors. OC's have hit a rich vein of form, recently beating Baddow A 9-1. Only Alistair Piper could get on the score sheet for Baddow with an 11-7 win in the fifth against Nikki Kennard, Nikki had a titanic struggle against Julie Vansertima winning 11-7 in the decider, could this be a rehearsal for this years ladies single final? ECC B came back well from their humiliation at Writtle by beating their C team 10-0, and more impressively 9-1 against Hatfield Peverel A. In these fixtures Gary Brignall and Trevor Collin won 6 out of 6. Bocking had a morale boosting 7-3 win over E2V, where Dave Richardson scored a hatrick for the losers. Divsion 3 is proving to be a really closely contested league, with Excalibur B setting the pace with a points haul of 42 points from 7 games. This week they had to give second best to Danbury C, in a match where no player was unbeaten, there was a notable win by Richard Hiskey over Peter Hance 16-14 in the fifth, with Peter fighting back by defeating Linda Murray 11-5 in the decider. Danbury D won 7-3 against a two man Rawreth B, where Tim Pulham had a good night winning all his games. The other result in this division was a hard fought draw between Baddow D and OC's B, Adrian North was undefeated for the visitors, rather surprisingly the experienced John Watts was unable to score. Elmtree B are leading division 4, but several of the teams below them have games in hand. Elmtree have recently been boosted by the return of Tony Vassallo, who had maximums against Hatfield Peverel C and Danbury H. Graham Turner scored a fine hatrick against Elmtree, being pushed all the way by Rod Mc Lennan, finally coming out on top 11-3 in the decider. Danbury F defeated Baddow E 7-3, where Dave Goody had a fine night winning his 3, Gareth Joice pushed him to the limit succumbing 11-9 in the decider. Richard Storey was the performer of the week in this division, securing a fine maximum against Baddow E. Writtle and OC's C teams are setting the pace in division five at this stage. Writtle beat Baddow F this week 8-2, where Andy Fox had a hatrick of wins. A two man OC's still beat their D team 7-3 , where Mark Bohan and David Porter carried all before them. Danbury J enjoyed a fine 7-3 win over Hatfield Peverel D, Norman Hayes and Roger Tiffin both won all there games. Mike Bard had a good evening for Hatfield Peverel D, winning all his matches with the minimum of fuss. EPHQ had a fine 8-2 win against Excalibur, Ian Hockley and Francis Whitbread both scoring hatricks.
