WRITTLE RUN RIOT In what is always a closely matched division, Writtle A routed ECCB 10-0 this week. The result was probably a little flattering, with Gary Ward overcoming Trevor Collin 12-10 in the fifth, and Trevor Carter beating Gary Brignall 14-12 in the decider. The luckless ECC C suffered a 9-1 defeat at the hands of Baddow Village B, with only Neil Thompson being able to stop the rot by beating young Bradley Hudgell. In the Hatfield Peverel "Derby", the A team had the upper hand in a 6-4 win, with John Parodi securing a fine maximum, although he was pushed all the way by Greg Green and Neil Freeman. The other result in division 2 was a 7-3 win for Maldon B over ECC C, Dave Bassett won all his games with the minimum of fuss. It was the clash of the titans in division 1 as promoted Billericay took on the reigning champions ECC A. Billericay had their highly ranked trio of Alex Green, Gary Tendler and Natalie Bawden against David Cole, Steve Kerns and substitute Holly Stubbings. Alex Green duly won his 3, but Gary Tendler suffered defeat against both Steve and Dave. Natalie also had a fine 11-5 win in the fifth against Dave Cole; the match finally finished 7-3 in favour of Billericay. Baddow Village A put in the performance of the week in beating Rawreth A 9-1, Aarron Fenell and Neil Gooday won all their games, with only new signing John Poysden being able to score for the visitors in defeating Peter Barrett. Maldon A beat Danbury A 7-3, with Lee Prentice and Hamish Innes all winning twice. Promoted Danbury B had a good 6-4 win over Bocking A, although Kevin Gowlett scored a fine hatrick for the visitors, including a 4 set win over Kevin Phillips. Richard Jennings playing up had a good win over Babul Mcleod. The final result on the top division was a 7-3 win for Elmtree A, Arthur Rybakas and Paul Lucas remained unbeaten in this match. In division 3 OC’s B had a good 7-3 win over Danbury D, with Nat Ravlic securing a fine hatrick. ECC D beat Writtle B, where young Dacre Pell secured a superb 13-11 in the fifth against the talented Matthew Brown. Excalibur B took on their C side with the match resulting in a hard fought draw. Richard Hiskey was the star performer in securing a hatrick, although he beat Steve Munday and Dave Moles both 13-11 in the decider. Linda Murray won two for the B side, only losing to Dave Moles; Ian Butler was the only player in this match who failed to score. Baddow Village C also played out a draw with Danbury C, with Peter Hance being unbeaten for the visitors. Rawreth also drew with Baddow Village D, Frank Neill being the only undefeated player on the night. Great Baddow A are still finding life tough in division 4, losing 9-1 to both Danbury G and Danbury H, Jim McCarthy gained a singles win in each match. Danbury H also had a 9-1 win over ECC F, with Ian Morrison and Gordon Gatherall winning three with only Mick Storey scoring for the visitors by taking the scalp of David Gatherall. Baddow Village E are still going well, this week they beat Danbury H 7-3, where Gareth Joice was unbeaten, although Paul Durrands had a fine win over Graham Turner. ECC E maybe surprisingly lost to Danbury F 6-4, however Jeff Lewington still won his three, Colin Blore had an off night in losing all three. There were some closely fought matches in division 5 this week, ECC G continued their good start with a narrow 6-4 win over OC’s D, Dacre Pell scored a fine treble including an 11-9 win in the fifth over Stuart Wintle. Baddow Village G beat their F team 6-4 , with Mike Robinson securing a fine maximum. Baddow F hit back against Excalibur D 7-3, where Mike Robinson again won his three, being well supported by reserve Ian Austin who won two. Baddow L had two good wins in the sixth division, beating OC’s E 9-1 and Danbury K 7-3, Tom Lee won 5 out of 6 in theses two matches, only losing to Matt Standen. John Fell won all 3 against the Austin family for Danbury K in their 6-4 win. Rob Haynes had the win of the week in this division, when he beat Keith Cullen 3 straight; Peter Mynard secured a fine hatrick for Hatfield Peverel E in this fixture.
