Saturday action. Tony Halling takes on seeded fellow Rawreth club member Duncan Taylor in the Men's event. Duncan was a surprise early exit from the Men's event defeated by Waseem Qureshi of Baddow in one of the main Saturday upsets.

Seeded at No.5 Andrew Dosher of ECC came through the group round and early stages of the Men's event relatively unscathed. But in the semi final he was no match on the night for fellow club member David Cole and so was denied an opportunity to appear in the final in his first season in the Chelmsford League.

In action on Saturday. Paul Davison of ECC who has brought added depth to the ECC B squad this season and now they are serious challengers for the League title. Back to the camera is Southend Premier League player Andrew Halling of Rawreth; currently playing for them in division 2 in Chelmsford where he is a little too good. But as the score board suggests not quite good enough to upset Paul.

League Vice Chairman John Skuse is seen in action presenting runners up awards to Ray Sutton and Alistair Hill both of ECC. They were runners up in the Handicap Doubles. The event was won by Andrew Halling (Rawreth) and Graham Pryke (Maldon Borough). Graham has put in some excellent performances in division 5 this year and made a very useful partner for Andrew.

More work for the Vice Chairman. Fittingly presenting the winners trophy to Mark Palmer (ECC) for his success in the Handicap Singles. Mark beat David Knights (Danbury) in the final. John was himself a runner up in the tournament. Loosing out to fellow club member Norman Hayes in the 6 Down final.

Despite this look of concentration David Cole of ECC could not match the strength of Lorestas Trumpauskas in the Men's Singles final. David has regularly appeared in finals night over the years, but has only once won the title - as long ago as 1985/86 when he was just 19.

Always the entertainer; Rik James of Elmtree Graphics another Finals Night regular, but again he has only actually won the Men's title once. This year he drew the short straw and had to face Lorestas in the semi final, in what, arguably, proved to be the best singles match of the night.

Our last picture shows Adrian Sharpe of the M&G Investments Group, who generously sponsored the Championships, presenting winners medals to Matthew Staines of ECC. Matthew won both the Under 15 and Under 17 Singles events - rather against expectations. In addition he was a runner up in the Junior Doubles. A candidate for best Junior performer of the Tournament?
