League KO Cup Finals

The last of the League's KO Cup Finals have now taken place. A full match report can be found in the Press Report for Monday 19 May. Meanwhile here are a few details.

Chris Jacob, Nicola Pippen and Vytas Rybakas.

Nicola Pippen made it second time lucky when she appeared in her second KO Cup Final of the season. In a match that looked slightly one sided she helped the Elmtree squad to retain the Mixed KO Cup for the 5th successive season with an emphatic 5:0 win over Danbury. Not often though that you see a 13yr old take such a title!

An unusual combination of players made up the Mixed KO Cup squad for losing finalists Danbury. Blending 1st, 3rd and 5th division players. Nevertheless they gave a good account of themselves as both Tony and Herbie only just lost out over 3 ends. But maybe they hadn't practised the doubles?

The Veterans KO Cup proved to be one of the hardest fought finals of the season. With an all first division line up for both sides it was the mighty Danbury who eventually took the title for the 9th successive time. And in no small measure they had the legendary Stuart Gibbs to thank for the 5:3 win. He remained undefeated in singles and doubles to secure the victory over a very strong Elmtree side.

At 2nd and 3rd in Division 1 there was never going to be much separating Elmtree and Danbury in this match. So, perhaps surprisingly it was the third placed team who triumphed. All the same the Elmtree side contributed to a first class match. But on the night, just couldn't stop Stuart.
