Keiran Lally of
Maldon TTC
Came back from
defeat in the
U21 Singles to
become the new
Men's Singles Champion in the
M&G Investments sponsored
Chelmsford Closed Championships.
Here he receives his trophy from
Anna Emtage of the sponsors

Deputy Mayor of Chelmsford,
Councillor Rex Barriball presents Cathy Eakin of Maldon TTC with her Ladies Singles Winners trophy. This was the second time Cathy has won the title. Her final opponent was Essex No.3 Junior Girl Leanne Bentley. On the night however Leanne was unable to recapture the form that had seen her eliminate the No.1 seed and former champion Julie Vansertima. Cathy with partner Linda Murray (Excalibur) also won the Ladies Doubles.

One of the most exciting events of Finals Night was the Men's Doubles. Having won that title 5 times previously it was perhaps no surprise that David Cole & Richard James (ECC) won it again. But my, Stephen Kerns & Keiran Lally were within a whisker of beating them.
The Deputy Mayor, accompanied by League Chairman Richard Hiskey, present the trophy.

David Cole and Julie Vansertima took the  Mixed Doubles title in style. It is the fifth time Julie has landed this trophy, and her fourth  partner!
But which lady has won this trophy the most?
Councillor Barriball presents the trophy.

Is this the face of the future? 13 year old Vytas Rybakas crowned a memorable Tournament by reaching the Final of the Men's Singles, where he only narrowly lost out to Keiran. Vytas had however already won the U21's Final (where he beat Keiran), the U13, U15, U17 Boys, singles and the U17 Doubles. Not a bad haul in his first M& G Event.
