Welcome to the latest edition of Picture News - adopting the current house style.

This edition features pictures from the Chelmsford Closed Championships held over the weekend 25 - 27 January 2002. A few more pictures will follow in a later edition.

Cris Sladden of Rawreth TTC
put on a display of quality table tennis befitting his England ranking to become the new  Men's Singles Champion in the M&G sponsored Chelmsford Closed Championships

A round dozen! That's the number of Ladies Singles titles now held by
Julie Vansertima; and this year she again added the Ladies Doubles title with partner Jean Chasmer; Both events being a repeat of last years achievement.

Making a welcome and successful return to the Chelmsford scene is Martin Cole; on this occasion he combined magnificently with brother David to lift, at the first attempt the Men's Doubles crown; being presented here on Finals Night by the Mayor of Chelmsford, Councilor Christine Rycroft

Leanne Bentley and Paul Davison
on their way to taking the Mixed Doubles title. This is the third time in 4 years that Leanne has taken that title.
Each time with a different partner!
Leanne was one of the busiest and most successful juniors of the Tournament, appearing in no fewer than 6 Finals. She added Junior Girls Singles title for the third time and took RU awards in the Ladies Singles, Handicap Singles, Junior Doubles and Junior Handicap Singles.
An excellent achievement.

Is this the 'shot' of the Tournament?
Ryan Pitt helps younger brother Adam master the rudiments of scoring.
They may not have been 'Winners' on the table for this Tournament;
but if this shot is anything to go by then
 they look like winners when it comes to brotherly love.
