Hi! Welcome to issue 2 of C&DTTL Picture News.
In this edition we feature the League's Junior Coaching programme led by Coaching Officer Neil Gooday, ably assisted by Junior Match Secretary Arthur Clark.
We welcome comments on this and any other articles in the C&DTTL website.
Please e-mail your comments to Graham Turner at Gratur.5gilmore@tesco.net
The Junior Coaching programme takes place on Monday evenings at Dovedales Sports Centre, Vicarage Road, Chelmsford (top of Moulsham Street) from 7-8 p.m. during school term. The youngsters that attend cover most age ranges from around 9 through to 15/16. The numbers attending can vary from anything from 10 to 25 which makes planning quite difficult, but quite exciting especially when there is a crowd! Play is on 7/8 tables and Neil and Arthur are grateful to one or two parents who stay (and play) to maintain some form of order.
Many of the youngsters who attend are completely new to table tennis and quite young, so if we are to develop them into potential good players of the future the coaching programme urgently needs support. There are two possible ways that you may be able to help:
1. Spare an hour occasionally on a Monday evening. Join a rota of volunteers to feed practice balls and encourage shot development working with 1 or 2 selected individuals.
2. Offer help in developing and running a Junior League - to run in conjunction with and at the same time as coaching. Again on a rota basis.
There can be tremendous satisfaction (and at times great frustration) in working with youngsters. If you would like more information or think you could help please speak to Neil (01245 354221), Arthur (01245 225688), Richard (01245 609857) or Graham (01245 474223).
