Welcome to the
latest edition of Picture News.
This Picture News introduces a new series of special features. From time to time this season we will feature individual teams in the League, especially some of the lesser known or newer teams. And what better to start with than one of the newest teams, Maldon E. Maldon were one of just two clubs to enter new teams in the League this season. So we welcome Maldon E, one of two new teams that the Maldon Club entered. Well done Maldon - keep them coming. And it is particularly pleasing to welcome back to the League former players. After a gap of about 6 years sisters Annette Mussett and Julie Oakman decided it was time to take up table tennis again. Julie said "we were talking one day earlier this year, about this and that, and just decided that we might like to give it a go again". They decided to try out their skills in the Summer League, and found that they still enjoyed playing. "We wanted to keep playing", Julie reported, so "we asked Steve if he would join us for the main League season". And who could refuse such an invitation. 20 year old Stephen Mays - who only played part time in Division 6 last year - looks to have the same kind of potential that his older brother Barry has shown in the last few years in fighting his way up to the first division. The team applied for and obtained a place in Division 4 of the League. "We knew it would be tough" they said. And it has been so far, but they welcome the better quality games that the higher division has to offer, and have already seen their game improving over just the first few weeks of the season. All three play a good all round game and welcome the challenge ahead. Although they lost their first two matches, going down 7:3 and then 6:4, they were encouraged by fighting out a draw with Baddow D, with all three players contributing to the result. Expect to see further improvement yet! And what's more, not only will you get a good game at Maldon, but when playing this team you will find they are very pleasant company as well. Well don, and keep it up Maldon.
