What can you say about Div 6 of the League?
It was a division of complete contrasts and could almost have been divided into three sections, with the top 3 teams waging their own private war for supremacy.
In the end just 2 points separated the top 3 teams and Danbury and Maldon were in the thick of it. But this time Old Chelmsfordians managed to sneak in between.

Worthy winners of Div 6 were Danbury J
under the captaincy of League Vice Chairman John Skuse.
The picture shows him with team mates Norman Hayes and Ray Beckwith
Absent from the photo shoot was the teams sub Nick Gough, who himself averaged over 80% from his 6 appearances.

You had to go right down to matches lost to decide the runner-up spot in this division. And OC's F just snatched it by the narrowest of margins.
The picture shows team captain Stuart Wintle, Gerrard Esser and Ken Iliffe.
The fourth member of the team John Macfarlane missed the photo shoot.

Team captain Roy Westby (missing from the photo) was convinced his team had the runners-up spot, because they had won more games than OC's F (in fact they had won as many as the top team). But games won only count after matches lost! And that vital second defeat for Maldon D left them stranded in third place.
But we're sure a place will somehow be found for them higher next season!!
Our picture shows Dave Marsh (second in the divisional averages with 91%!),
Barrie Gooch (only fifth in the averages on 87%), and Stephen Mays.
Just called into action occasionally to support the team, and aslo missing from the photo, was Club Secretary Keith Mays.

Stuart Wintle captain of OC's F played in all 20 of his teams matches and topped the divisions averages with a massive 92% record

Baddow Village G, Richard Upson, Ray Clements and Fred Henwood. Despite their experience they could only finish in fifth place.

Is this the best dressed player in the League? Ken Iliffe, of OC's F, who has been playing in the League for over 50 years even kept his tie on!

Hatfield Peverel F, a genuine new team to the League, were strengthened by the addition of Mark Patman (centre). He is joined here by Andy Whiley and son John.

James Cheesman of Excalibur C, one of the most improved young players in 6. Coach wanted?

John Patman of Hatfield Peverel enjoying his first season of league table tennis and a good impression he made too. Lots of potential. Good coach wanted.
