SO YOU THINK
YOU CAN UMPIRE DO YOU?
We all pretend we can - but just how good are we? Why not find out just what you know? The ETTA has announced the launch of a new qualification for Local Umpires (LU). It is a basic umpire test, leading to an official certificate of recognition, for those whose interest is initially umpiring at local level only. Those who are successful will also, if they wish, be able to go forward to qualify as County Umpires, the second level of qualification. The LU qualification requires a sound knowledge of the Laws and basic scoring procedure. Syllabus notes have been prepared and provide the backbone for an introductory seminar prior to completion of a written test paper. Candidates can take the test paper having studied the Laws and syllabus notes although some may wish to attend an organised meeting. To complete the qualification those who pass the written test will undergo a short practical test. Completed papers can be marked by a County Umpires Secretary, Regional Development Officer or Members of the National Umpires and Referees Committee; or they can be sent to NURC Secretary at ETTA HQ. The practical test will be conducted by two examiners one of whom will be qualified to the level of County Umpire or higher. The NURC Secretary will be responsible for the registration of newly qualified umpires. A copy of the LU test paper and the syllabus notes are available from the General Secretary of the League. So, do you want to be an Umpire? If you are interested contact Graham Turner. If there are enough people in the League wishing to take the test and who wish to attend a seminar the League is willing to organise one to be conducted by a qualified Tutor. Please let the General Secretary, Graham Turner, know if you are interested. he can be contacted by email or telephone (see contacts). |
